Filling the Gaps: Mexican oral historian recovers lost stories of NE Florida’s Hispanic community

Dr. Rebecca Dominguez-Karimi, an oral historian, is dedicated to uncovering and documenting the lost stories of the Hispanic community in Northeast Florida. Her journey began with a childhood experience of being reprimanded for speaking Spanish at school, which fueled her lifelong advocacy for Hispanic heritage. Despite initial challenges, including limited archival information, she has successfully conducted 60 oral history interviews with various individuals, highlighting both traumatic and triumphant experiences. Her work, including the Rebecca Dominguez-Karimi Oral History Collection, aims to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and address community injustices.
