Baker County Bartram Trail Spring Game 

University Christian barreled into the softball state championship game with a wire-to-wire blowout in the Class 1A state semifinals on Tuesday. The Christians laid the hammer to Schoolhouse Prep in a 12-2 romp that ended in five innings due to the mercy rule at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood. The Christians will try and win the second fast-pitch state title in program history on Wednesday against Evangelical Christian or Geneva at 6 p.m.

Nearly 11 years to the day that the Conquerors won their only championship, they added title No. 2 with an 8-4 win over True North in the Class 2A title game in Fort Myers on Tuesday night. Trinity’s only other championship came just after midnight on May 22, 2015, a game that was delayed more than three hours by rain. This time, a weather delay and an 11-inning game before their first pitch pushed their start time back by more than three hours.

Prospect-laden Trinity Christian pulled away with a four-run fourth inning to beat Lakeland Christian 7-2 in the Class 2A state semifinals on Monday morning in Fort Myers. Aiden Arnett and Jordan Martinez drove in three runs apiece as Trinity powered on. The Conquerors won their only state title in 2015.

It's a Sparty Party in Fort Myers for the St. Johns Country Day baseball team. Brayden Harris fired a complete game with 10 Ks (his second state win this week) to lead the Spartans to a 6-2 win over Orangewood Christian for the Class 1A baseball state championship. It's the second title in three years for St. Johns Country Day and head coach Tom Lucas.

Nearly 2,000 runners entered the first Jacksonville Ironman Triathlon event Saturday. Pedro Gomes won the inaugural event, and Mayor Donna Deegan said she'd heard great review outside of that pesky traffic problem in one of the biggest endurance events in area history.

Nearly 2,000 athletes competed in the inaugural Ironman Jacksonville on Saturday. Scottsdale resident Pedro Gomes won the race with a 8:30:41 time. Jacksonville native Jennifer Sylva was the fastest female. The race will return to Jacksonville for the next two years.

The St. Johns Country Day baseball team is the best in the state again. The Spartans did the bulk of their damage in the third inning and used an elite performance from Brayden Harris to beat Orangewood Christian 6-2 to win the Class 1A state championship on Saturday in Fort Myers.

While hockey continues to grow in the Sunshine State, one young player from St. Johns County is already making a name for herself on the ice. At just 12 years old, Rory Mayer is piling up championships and helping lead the next generation of girls hockey in Jacksonville.
